Security in Connected devices

Kudelski IoT

Armed with more than a decade of experience in connected devices design and conscious that security is an integral building block of the Internet of Things, we have continually been tackling security challenges in order to protect sensitive data on our devices.

From ensuring basic firmware integrity to protecting specific secrets, we have seen over the years the complexity, the amount of data and its criticality dramatically increase. We’ve been hard at work with our customers, studying and changing our designs to ensure data security and confidentiality at every level: Hardware, Firmware, and Software.

Security threats and attack vectors are always developing in the fast-paced cyber environment. Malicious actors are continually refining and enhancing their methods and instruments. As a connected devices developer, it is our responsibility to stay current on emerging threats, security best practices, state-of-the-art protection, and to update our designs accordingly.

With this in mind, a small group of engineers has recently attended a Security Workshop given by the Kudelski Group’s Internet of Things division. The workshop was a great experience for the team! We learned about cutting-edge hacking techniques used by hackers to attack a device, employing an end-to-end strategy that began in the cloud and ended in the embedded world. The hands-on labs provided useful insights into emphasis areas that should be considered throughout the product lifetime, from initial product assessment and development through to post-launch maintenance and field upgrades.

A special thanks to Kudelski’s Team for this well-designed training and their availability to extend the discussion onto other topics. We are grateful for these enriching exchanges with Kudelski’s experts and their positive verdict as to our approach so far.

SDATAWAY is committed to the continuous education our teams on essential IoT security concepts in order to keep designing and producing secure devices. In the long run, we plan to expand our services to our customers and partners by integrating security/threat assessment early in the development. We would leverage our learning to execute and defend from basic attacks and rely on partners like Kudelski for advanced attacks, depending on the risks highlighted during the assessment.

SDATAWAY is already able to deliver end-to-end tailor-made IoT solutions. From Prototyping to Industrialization, our Hardware, Firmware and Software development teams are accompanying customers along the whole product development journey. Be it the physical connected object as well as mobile, cloud and web applications. We are convinced that this additional step will position us in a unique spot in IoT Devices development.
